Durbin Votes to Keep Gas Prices High
"By voting against expanding domestic oil production, Dick Durbin has made it clear - once again - that the liberal special interest groups come before the interests of the hard-working men and women of Illinois." - Steve Sauerberg, M.D.
(Lombard, IL) - Today, Dick Durbin voted against an amendment offered by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that would have expanded domestic production of oil by opening up drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). "By voting against expanding domestic oil production, Dick Durbin has made it clear - once again - that the liberal special interest groups come before the interests of the hard-working men and women of Illinois," said Sauerberg.
"Dick Durbin has never been shy about using gas prices as an election year gimmick - never missing the chance for a press conference or a photo op in front of a gas station," continued Sauerberg (see attached photo).
"What has all of Dick Durbin's talk about gas prices delivered in the way of results for the people of Illinois? Sadly, the results speak for themselves," said Sauerberg. "Unlike Dick Durbin I am not interested in photo ops or press conferences or political games; instead I will be focused on delivering real results to the people of Illinois." "We can help lower gas prices and move towards energy independence by encouraging the expansion of nuclear power, as well as, expanding domestic oil production and refinement," continued Sauerberg. "These steps, coupled with decreasing federal gas taxes and tapping the strategic oil reserve, can help relieve the pressure that sky-high gas prices are putting on individuals, families and businesses in Illinois." Sauerberg also called for encouraging new technologies and alternative energy sources by expanding tax credits for research in these areas. "The time for talk is over. It is clear that Dick Durbin and the Washington career politicians are incapable of ending our energy crisis. It is time that Dick Durbin be held accountable for his dismal legislative record - and that's exactly what I plan on doing," concluded Sauerberg.
